The World of Epsilon

A complete guide to the clans, magic, and mythology of White's Winter

I

The World of Epsilon

Epsilon is a vast wilderness inhabited by wolves, divided into four great clans that have warred and traded for centuries. Dense forests, frozen tundras, towering mountains, and a great central lake form the landscape of this world where music was once the language of unity—until it was banned.

The Unknown

The vast wilderness between the clan territories. Only hunters venture into the Unknown—dense woods, snowy mountains, and dangerous terrain filled with predators like bears. The Unknown connects all four clans but belongs to none.

The Great Lake

The heart of Epsilon—a mile-long lake at the center of the world. Despite the constant fighting between clans, the lake remains "still and peaceful." It holds deep significance and painful memories for those who have lost loved ones near its waters.

The Mountains

A treacherous range where the Atrum Semita have established their base of operations. Rain replaces snow in the mountains, and the terrain is deadly—sheer cliffs, hidden drops, and darkness that seems to breathe.

II

The Four Clans

Epsilon is divided among four wolf clans, each with distinct cultures, strengths, and territories. Long ago, the four brothers united these clans through Alpha's Harmony. Now they fight and mistrust each other—until a common enemy forces them to remember what unity means.

The North

Hunters & Tradition

Territory: Dense forests and snowy woodlands surrounded by protective walls

Known For: Elite hunters, the Temple monument, traditional values

Culture: The North values duty, hierarchy, and protection. Music is banned. Hunters protect civilians and venture into the Unknown for food and defense. The Bairbarn festival is their biggest celebration.

Notable Drink: Libra — a hallucinogenic beverage enjoyed by hunters during festivals

Relic Location: The Temple — a massive red-stained stone structure with gold lining, home to the North's ancient relic

The East

Innovation & Armor

Territory: Built atop a silver mine, featuring gleaming metal structures and advanced architecture

Known For: Silver armor that makes wolves nearly impossible to bite, advanced technology, stores and commerce

Culture: The East values intelligence, innovation, and superiority. They believe themselves better than other clans. Their hunters wear full silver plate armor and are formidable in battle.

Combat Style: To defeat armored East wolves, you must strike their heads—the vibration through the metal knocks them unconscious

Alpha: Armano — a green-furred wolf in gold armor who values friendship and believes in love

The South

Warriors & Strength

Territory: Rocky terrain and fortified strongholds

Known For: The strongest warriors in Epsilon, brutal combat training, and fierce pride

Culture: The South values strength above all else. They are highly hostile to outsiders and have a reputation for being even more dangerous than the East. Their hunters are legendary fighters.

Reputation: "Some hunters say they are even worse than the East"

The West

Peace & Healing

Territory: Gardens, healing huts, and peaceful settlements

Known For: Herbal medicine, accepting outsiders, peaceful philosophy, hooded cloaks

Culture: The West is the only clan that welcomes wolves from other territories. They practice healing arts and have developed herbal treatments that can save lives—though some have unusual side effects, like accelerated hair growth.

Philosophy: Built on peace and acceptance rather than war and conquest

Characters

Riley and Erika

Riley White

The Marked One • Protagonist

"Isn't the purpose of life to achieve the impossible?"

Appearance

Bright blue fur (unusual for wolves), smaller than other males, scruffy fur between his ears, and a thick white scar down his right eye that he's had since birth—white as snow, unlike any battle scar.

Background

An outcast in the North clan, Riley has no friends and is regularly bullied by Piper and his gang. He lives in a small tent at the edge of the settlement. Despite his isolation, he maintains a kind heart and never stops trying to connect with others.

Powers

Synesthesia: When Riley sings, lights and colors appear around him, dancing with the music. He can see the music as visual patterns.

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis): Through an ancient chant, Riley can summon healing lights that mend wounds—his own and others nearby. The lights drain him but have saved his life multiple times.

Personality

Anxious, rambling, and awkward—but also brave, loyal, and determined. Riley often talks too much when nervous and has difficulty with eye contact. Despite his fear, he consistently chooses to act when others need help.

Epic Battle

Erika Brookes

The North's Finest Hunter

"I had one duty my whole life. I protected the North because that was my home."

Appearance

Jet black fur with even darker black accents. Distinctive long flowing hair that resulted from West herbal treatment—it constantly falls in her face. Light green eyes "prettier than emeralds." Small and toned with a fierce presence.

Background

Watched her father die protecting her when she was young—an event that haunts her nightmares. She poured herself into becoming the best hunter in the North, designing the training camp herself. Her brother is Taber, and her closest friend is Owen.

Combat Skills

The best fighter in the North clan. Her signature moves include vaulting over opponents, devastating sidekicks, and using enemies as shields. She's never lost a sparring match in under one minute. Hunters gave her nicknames: "The Shadow Assassin" and "The Siren of Death."

Personality

Cold and guarded on the surface, fierce and protective of those she cares about. She struggles with emotions and keeps others at distance. Secretly loves music and dancing but considers it a weakness. Her catch phrase when annoyed: "Dammit! Not you!"

Owen

North Hunter • Erika's Best Friend

Older wolf with tan outlines around brown fur. Kind, humble, and wise. Often gives Riley advice. He and Erika are like siblings—they planned to "die together in battle."

"Isn't the purpose of life to achieve the impossible?"

Taber Brookes

North Hunter • Erika's Brother

Black fur with tan coating. Reckless, narcissistic, but reliable in a fight. Constantly breaks rules and brags about his dating life. Deep down, he'd die for his sister without hesitation.

Piper

Riley's Bully

Yellow-furred wolf who leads a gang that torments Riley. Hates music and singing. Ironically, Riley learns his aggressive speech patterns from Piper—using them to taunt guards during the prison escape.

Armano

Alpha of the East

Green fur with white outlines, wearing gold-plated armor. Despite his clan's superiority complex, Armano is surprisingly kind and values friendship. He helps Riley prepare for his first date with Erika.

"Love is beautiful... Trust time, rather than fear it."

IV

The Four Relics

Created by Alpha and worn by the four brothers who first united Epsilon, the relics are gold necklaces containing crystals of immense power. When all four relics are gathered and Alpha's Harmony is sung, the clans can be united once more.

The North Relic

Blue Crystal

Located in the Temple. The crystal glows bright blue when activated, illuminating the ancient carvings on its gold surface.

The East Relic

Red Crystal

Hidden within the silver city of the East, protected by armored hunters and innovative defenses.

The South Relic

Green Crystal

Guarded by the fiercest warriors in Epsilon. The South's relic is said to be the most difficult to obtain.

The West Relic

Yellow Crystal

Kept by the peaceful West clan, who alone remember the old ways and the importance of the relics.

Alpha's Harmony

The sacred song that once united all wolves of Epsilon. When sung by one who can harness the relics, it makes "reason overcome emotion, so the most complex thoughts could be fathomed." The song causes wolves to see each other for who they truly are—just wolves, not enemies. This is what Zane fears most.

V

Magic & Powers

Synesthesia

Riley's unique gift—the ability to create visible light, color, and harmony when singing. The colors "dance" with the music, and others can see and hear the melodies. This power is connected to Alpha's gift of music.

Aurora Borealis (The Northern Lights)

A powerful healing ability activated through an ancient Latin chant. When summoned, colorful lights sweep across the sky, healing wounds and restoring strength. The power drains Riley but has saved multiple lives.

"Ego postulo viam nunc pro tutela. malum habet educatus caput eius et oportet crescere. Da mihi lumen senex, lumine ductu, et da mihi lucem vincere malum et concede unitatem, ut innocens. aurora borealis, da mihi vires veteris!"

Shadow Manipulation

Zane's terrifying power. He can teleport through shadows, appearing and disappearing at will. Shadows "steam" around him, the temperature drops in his presence, and his glowing red eyes pierce through darkness. He moves faster than any wolf can track.

The Relic Powers

When activated, the relics glow with their crystal colors and enhance the wearer's abilities. Combined with Alpha's Harmony, they have the power to unite all wolves and overcome even the greatest evil.

VI

The Enemy

Zane

Leader of the Atrum Semita

Appearance

Pitch-black fur with red linings on his body and head. Razor-sharp fangs stained completely red with blood. Three times larger than any wolf in the North. His eyes are pure glowing red—"almost like staring into the sun."

Powers

Shadow teleportation, immense physical strength, and an aura of terror that drops the temperature around him. Shadows "steam" from his body and he can vanish and reappear anywhere darkness exists.

Philosophy

"What you see is the future of Epsilon... The Atrum Semita are rising." Zane believes in total domination through fear and violence. He lets survivors escape specifically to spread terror.

"I am who the four brothers feared would come one day... I am Zane."

The Atrum Semita

Zane's army of death. They wear black and red warpaint around menacing eyes, their coats stained with blood. Their clan in the mountains is a place of horror—walls covered in blood, wolf heads hung as trophies, cages full of prisoners. They use fire-launching machines in battle and fight with brutal efficiency.

The Semita practice levels of torture "clans don't do." Their purpose is to destroy the four clans and establish Zane's vision of a new Epsilon ruled by fear.
